Review: Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask to Clear Pores

I recently wrote about the Origins Drink Up- Intensive Overnight Mask, and after being curious about some other cult products of the brand, I decided to save my pennies one by one and try another mask.

After going to the gym quite everyday and dealing with this intense Summer heat, my skin was starting to feel a bit congested but I didn’t want to go and use just any product. The Origins brand utilises ingredients that are natural and generally great for the skin, which is also great for anyone with the sensitive skin type. Activated charcoal and white China clay help to pull environmental toxins and impurities from the skin. This mask also has no scent that I could really pick up. Again, another tick for the sensitive skinned gals out there.

This charcoal based mask is aimed towards all skin types, which I don’t think can usually be possible. With my usually dry skin type, I was worried this sort of mask would dry out the skin too much, but it wasn’t an issue at all. After washing all makeup off of the face, the mask is applied to the skin and sits for around 10-20 minutes. The good thing about these sorts of masks is that you can just apply it to problem areas, or apply all over.

The consistency of the product is also quite versatile, so you can layer it up from being thin or light to full, depending on how much you prefer to use. The mask also dries quite evenly and comfortably, with no noticeable pulling or tugging. Because of the charcoal, the mask is a dark, almost thick, gel consistency and can stain your cloth on removal. So, for this I would definitely recommend using one that you don’t mind getting dirty. I personally enjoy using my Eve Lom Muslin Cloth for this process. After the mask is removed I also don’t notice any redness, which can be common with clay masks. What I was left with was skin that felt clearer and decongested.

I wouldn’t say that the results aren’t that of the instantly visible kind, but you can definitely feel a new softness about the skin.

Overall, this mask really gave some relief to my skin, and I would recommend to anyone in need of a little skin pick-me-up. A range of Origins facial masks are available from Mecca Cosmetica at $34AUD (100ml).
